What were you doing in 1998?
Mathieu, a French naval engineer and passionate waterman, moved to Tarifa—then a windsurfing hub—to craft boards. As kitesurfing emerged, he quickly mastered it and began teaching. In 1998, he founded Tarifa Max, one of the first kitesurfing schools in the area.
Over the next 20+ years, he grew it into the most recognized school in Tarifa, known for innovative teaching and harmony with nature. Thousands of kitesurfers have since started their journey with Mat’ and his team.
Where will you be in 2028?
Since 2022, Tarifa Max has been led by Mat’, Giulia, and Gautier—a passionate trio united by their love for kitesurfing and the sea. Giulia and Gautier, both latecomers to the sport, quickly embraced it as a lifestyle and became instructors after settling in Tarifa.
They joined forces with Mat’ to carry the legacy forward with energy, fun, and deep respect for the ocean. Wherever the wind takes them next, you’ll find them near the water—sharing the ride.
